Rocky's story
**Rocky is currently being fostered in Houston

meaning meeting his prior to his adoption will not be possible. His adoption donation is $500USD

this includes his flight home, a new kennel, and he has been fully vetted. Because flights are so expensive, the adoption fee is non-negotiable. **
Rocky came to us as the survivor of severe cruelty. He was found quite literally in a trash pile, with his throat slit, prolapsed testicles from an attempted castration, and he had been kicked so hard that his hip was out of socket. We didnt think he would make it through the night, but he not only survived, he is thriving. Despite everything that happened to him, this sweet boy just wants to be loved. We promised him day one that we would find him the BEST forever life and now is the time.
Rocky is a 3-year old Staffie/Boxer Mix. Boxer. He is a medium sized boy, coming in around the 50-pound mark. Be aware that many management companies may have restrictions against a dog of his breed, so it is important to check with your management agency prior to applying. Rocky is a medium energy level guy. He loves to go on walks, lay in the sun, play with his dog friends, and hang out with his foster family. He has had a full reconstruction of his hip joint, but does still limp occasionally. The vet has assured us he is 100% recovered, its a matter of mentally remembering that his leg works again.
He loves to go on adventures (especially if there are some drive thru fries involved), ride in the car, go on walks, but also loves a little snuggle time with his family. He would be best suited for a family that can ensure proper exercise and socialization for this special boy.
Rocky currently lives with other dogs of all sizes (8 pounds through 80) and does great with them, but we think hed be better suited for a home with bigger dogs as he can be a bit rough with the little bits. But he would also make a great bachelor dog. Unfortunately, he cannot live with kitties.
Rocky has met and done great with kids and would make a great buddy for some kids who have been taught to be respectful of animals to grow up with.
Rocky is fully house and kennel trained, is great on leash, and loves to go for rides in the car. He is a big baby who will steal your heart if you give him the change.
The best suited family will be one that understands that dogs can take time to acclimate to their new homes - which will likely include having accidents, crying in their kennel, and chewing on things they are not supposed to. Rocky will be best suited for a family that can provide him with patience and positive reinforcement as he grows.
We expect our dogs to be adopted by families who plan to keep them as indoor pets and part of the family. We do not adopt to families who plan to keep dogs outside for an extended period of time, for example the entire workday.
Rocky is fully vetted and healthy. However, because of his cruddy first life, he is heartworm positive. This does not impact him in anyway other than needing a small dose of oral medication twice a month that the rescue will supply. We anticipate his heartworm status should be negative by this coming summer as he has been on treatment since rescued. He is neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, and microchipped. He does not have any health or allergy issues that we are aware of.
